Someone Needs You!!

I am recovering from one of the worst 'diseases' that writers suffer from, commonly known as a writer's block. A condition that can last for a long period of time. Symptoms range from having nothing to write about to having an idea on what to write about but not being able to actually put your thoughts together and write. It also includes writing and deleting over and over again and having many things to write about but not knowing how to narrow it down. Trust me it is real! True story!
So my condition has lasted for about a year now, BUT enough is enough. I decided to write again. I trust that this will be an insightful piece

What is the most prominent feeling that you get whenever you read the newspapers or listen to prime time news. I can confidently say it is a myriad of feelings. You get all these emotions of disgust, anger, disappointment and frustration. Times have changed, men have changed, the hearts of men have waxed cold and human life is no longer a treasure.

I was reading the newspaper and I came across the story of a five-year- old child who was defiled and sodomised for up to four hours. She had to be taken for surgery because her reproductive organs were raptured. I have never been so shocked. I mean, why would anyone do that to a harmless, innocent girl? What joy is derived from destroying the health and the future of a five-year-old girl and what happened to justice? It is obvious that we are living at a time and age of moral decay. The trauma and stress that this young girl went through is unimaginable and she will have to live with this for the rest of her life and for what? A few minutes of imagined pleasure? Which, if you ask me, is just a pathetic thought.

As I read through another article, I was perturbed by the statistics of child abuse. It is evident that a lot of harm has been caused already. We are bringing up children who are wounded in one way or another. What can we do to ensure that their past does not contribute to a distorted and broken future?

In my few years of living, I have learnt that we all need someone to walk with in this life. It is our responsibility as grown up individuals to walk with a young one, who may be your child or a neighbour’s child.
Mentorship Session

Despite your busy schedule, be there for a young girl, be there for a young boy. Sometimes all they need is someone to constantly reassure them that they have a future, that it was not their fault and that they need to stop blaming themselves for what happened, someone to help realize that they are not alone. The impact may not be immediately felt but in the near future we will see that we were the reason why somebody lived on, the reason why somebody did not commit suicide or the reason why someone did not get into drug abuse. The reason why someone became an artist, a writer, a musician, a mother, a father, an engineer, a lawyer or a doctor. The reason why someone has a smile on their face. This will be more fulfilling that sitting back and doing nothing except complaining.
This is my plea to all of us who are reading this.
