What would you have done differently?

Two women from whom I draw many lessons from Job’s Wife and Lots Wife, Photo Courtesy: https://www.findshepherd.com/extolling-gods-name.html I can imagine what you are thinking right now, yeah! yeah! the woman who turned into salt oh and the other one who advised her husband to abuse God. You are probably telling yourself, “these women were a disgrace to humanity and to womanhood. Job’s wife, was the woman who told her husband why don’t you just curse your God and die. Let us try and put ourselves in her life just for a minute. This woman was one of the women in the society that had a very wealthy life. Her husband was one of the richest men in the land of Uz. Let us say they one of the richest couple’s in the land of Uz. A little is said about her until the point where she tells Job to curse God. But you can imagine, they had probably known no struggle, no pain no illness, they had enjoyed the favour of the Lord for years. They had served God diligently. Then Boom...

So what are you doing about it?

Passenger: “Tafadhali punguza volume ya radio kidogo, iko juu sana” Matatu tout: “Madam kama huwezi deal na hii volume shuka upande gari ingine.” I am certain you have been a victim of this many times. Or maybe you have seen those stickers which say if the music is too loud for you then you are too old. But wait hold that thought! You have had a long day, all you need is to rest your head and if you have to, then listen to some soft music. You dream, your one desire is thwarted the moment you reach the bus station. The music from the matatus drives you crazy, you wish you could walk home, but you probably live in Rongai, so walking is not an option. So you get in anyway, the moment you seat, your ears great numbed, and the beats of the loud music change the beat of your heart. You cry to God, at that moment you wish you had the ability to destroy the wires just by deeply staring at them, then you realise, that only happens in movies. Oh wait! One more thing...

Taking Him At His Word

Image
The journey continues. I consider anger and fear as some of the worst ‘emotions’ (for lack of a better word) for any relationship. Photo courtesy: https://pixabay.com/en/smiley-fear-anger-angry-shocked-150598/ Marriages are broken because of either anger or fears, parent-child relationships are destroyed because of either anger or fear, and your relationship with your boss can be destroyed because of either anger or fear. Think about any relationship, you will realise that anger or fear sticks its head up like a sore thumb; as a problem. One of those things you teach yourself as you continue in your spiritual journey is to take God at His word. I decided to delve into what scripture says about fear, what the Lord promises me despite of fear and well sometimes it is sure hard but the challenge here is no matter how hard it gets, take Him at His word and recite these verses over and over again when you feel overwhelmed. I will zero in on six life changing vers...

Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

Image
Matthew 6:25-34 KJV Therefore I say unto you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add a cubit to his stature? Wait Hold it right there! “Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature NIV says: Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to his life abit longer Good news says: Can any of you live a bit longer by worrying about it Photo Couresyclipartfox.com Some realities may sound harsh but they remain realities. I have been a worrier for a long time (by God’s Grace I am getting over it) Maybe you can relate to this. “If I call my friend (for instance)and she doesn’t pick up, th...

Going through a dive?

Image
5 months later, I have something to write about :) I coined a new term, A spiritual dive Maybe you can identify with it maybe not I define a spiritual dive as that moment in your life when you lose grip spiritually. When you take many steps away from God, when you feel lost and all alone and yet you cant bring yourself to even say a prayer When you used to wake up early to commune with God but now you mumble a prayer as you run to the matatu, well because you are late, and you have no minutes to spare When you used to take time to study God's word but now you open your Bible only when you are in church the remaining time you comfort yourself in the name of "I have an e-bible on my phone which I read whenever I am able to." (Well that really never happens) When you lose a loved one and you get so mad at God because, how could he let that happen, where was He when it happened, (these are the moment when all the verses you have a...

Bonding? Yes Please, I thought you would never ask...

Image
FYI we are not teenagers. I just love this photo, and yes we were once teenagers:) One of the most important things in the African culture is harmony and togetherness in the family and this has been the central pillar to an upright society. Every family had a very strict father, most times, it was very hard to sit and have a conversation with him because he was a disciplinarian who ensured that nobody did anything to tarnish the family’s name and reputation. This may sound dictatorial, it actually is dictatorial, but for some reason it worked. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that we should go back too that style of living per se. What I would like to present to you is the thought that parents need to spend more time with their children then they are doing now. I will tell you why in a bit. A friend of mine likes to call it economic orphans, to mean young kids who lack the presence of their parent because their parents are out building the economy. The real...

Dearest Last born...

Image
Many times the creation story is one of those life lessons that we first learnt and memorised in Sabbath school. I teach children and that’s one of the first stories that very young children are taught. But recently I gave this story some very deep thought. Photo courtesy: https://pixabay.com/en/creation-adam-eve-religion-47473/ Do you know of any last born children, maybe you are one. Well when you think of a last born, what comes to your mind? Probably a spoilt child, or maybe an overly pampered child, sometimes a very stubborn and difficult child, sometimes they are very adventurous, are risk takers. Usually all the attention is given to the last child. However not all last born children have the above characteristics stated, this is very general I thought about the order of children in a home and likened it to the creation story, now this is my other way of interpreting the creation story. Think about it. Man comes in as the last creation, i.e the last born, but...

Ever been at the wrong place at the wrong time?

Image
I don’t know how to bring out what I am about to write about, but read through with me. David, a man after God’s own heart, that’s what we read about him in Acts 13:22, many people never think that David really deserved that description, well for whatever reasons that they have. Psalms 51 is one of those chapters that convince me that David really did deserve that title, but that’s not the point. There is something about being at the wrong place at the wrong time, that awakens me this day even as I share. 2 nd Samuel 11:1 And it came to pass after the year was expired at the time when kings go forth to battle that David sent Joab and his servants with him and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David Tarried still at Jerusalem It was because David was in the wrong place at the wrong time that he ended up seeing Bathsheba naked, the he lusted for her that he sent for her, that he committed adultery with B...

Will it ever be GOOD ENOUGH?

Image
The human nature is very difficult to deal with. Contentment has been one of those things that all of us struggle with. Well let’s just say, everyday seems to be either a step forward/backward. When we don’t have a job, we complain about how miserable and frustrating it is to look for a job, when we finally get a job we complain about how much it takes away our free time; how much work we have, how mean our bosses are and how poorly paid we are. When we move to higher paying jobs, we still complain about how better other companies pay and treat their employees, when we start our own business we complain about how hard it is, how draining it is, how much of our energy it has taken. A couple somewhere distressed about not having a child while another couple is distressed about having their first baby because they weren’t prepared. If you are married it’s a problem, if you are single it is still a problem, if you are thin it’s a problem, if you add weight it is still...

WHO DEFINES BEAUTY?

Image
According to an article written by Brunell and Gold based on research done in Chicago by Oxygen Media Survey, 25% of women would rather win America’s next top model than win a Nobel Prize. 81% of 10 year old are afraid of being fat this is according to National Eating Disorders Association and finally according to Pew Research Center Poll 54% of women would rather be hit by a truck than be fat. I found this statistics interesting but shocking at the same time. You may be wondering why am I sharing with you statistics on American women? I will tell you why. At this age and time, I am convinced now more than ever that Africa is following the footsteps of the Western culture. We are imitating almost everything that the west does. Obesity is becoming a matter of concern in Africa, anorexia and bulimia, these were unheard of in the African Culture but lo and behold! They are creeping into the African culture very fast. The African woman has always been considered a beauty ...
